Virtanen leads in three-pointers in Finland

Petri Virtanen became on March 14th the all-time three-points leader in Finnish Korisliiga. The talented point-guard reached the mark of 1,081 triples in the game that his team, Kataja, lost at home against Tapiolan Honka 81-100. Virtanen, 33, and in his 14th season in the league, has a career .352 percentage (in 3,071 attempts) and hence surpassed the previous record owner, Kari -Pekka Klinga, who retired in 1999 with 1,079 three-pointers made (in 2,661 attempts).

Virtanen, a starter in the Finnish national squad, was one of the stars of the Lappeenrannan NMKY team that reached the second round of the 2007-08 FIBA Eurocup. He was one of the top scorers in the competition with an average of 16.2 points per game.

In the same aforementioned, game Teemo Rannikko -his teammate in Kataja- passed the 900 assist mark and is the tenth all-time in a list who indeed commands Virtanen with 1,644 decisive passes. In Finland the historical statistics are regular season only.
