Argentina, adjusting nuts

As number three in the FIBA ranking, Argentina will try to impress on Spain to return to show the world that the results of the last fifteen years were no fluke. It also seeks to achieve its second world championship after the first held in 1950, coincidentally at home.

With the center Juan Gutiérrez (hip injury), shooting guard Manu Ginobili (stress fracture in his right foot; San Antonio didn’t let him participate) and Carlos Delfino (he underwent two operations on her foot last year) definitely out, coach Julio Lamas has two questions to complete the final list. As a turning point, the comeback of power forward Walter Herrmann (today in Atenas de Córdoba), in great shape after two years inactive.

After the South American Championships in Isla Margarita (Venezuela), some members of the alternative team who finished runner-up (among them shooting guard Nicolas Richotti) began to take part on the main team. The friendly tournaments of Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires will be a key factor to determine the final list.

The South American cast will be seeded in Group B along with Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Croatia, Senegal and Greece. The venue, Seville, and the stadium is the reformed Palacio de Deportes San Pablo.

Finally, some issues to resolve, other players will surely be in the World are point guards Pablo Prigioni and Facundo Campazzo, forwards Luis Scola (as a captain) and Andres Nocioni. This competition will remain in history as the last of the so-called Golden Generation.
