Jasikevicius announces retirement


Sarunas Jasikevicius, announced his retirement from the courts. The legendary point guard, 38, will start a new project linked to basketball when he will join the Zalgiris coaching staff.

It is expected to take over the training sessions with Zalgiris in two weeks, when the Lithuanian team begins preseason. Jasikevicius will perform functions as head coach until Gintaras Krapicas, currently coach of the Lithuanian national team, finishes his stint at the FIBA World Cup to be held in Spain.

Sarunas Jasikevicius is one of the most successful European players has reaped after winning the Euroleague four times with three different teams. In addition, the Lithuanian also succeed with his national team, where he won the bronze medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, gold at EuroBasket 2003 (tournament MVP included), and bronze at EuroBasket 2007 in Madrid.

During his career he played for Lietuvos Rytas, Olimpija Ljubljana, Barcelona, Indiana Pacers, Golden State Warriors, Panathinaikos, Fenerbahce and Zalgiris Kaunas, team where ended his career and proclaimed league champion. Now, Jasikevicius will begin a new chapter in his basketball career, this time as coach.
