Berni Rodriguez to Seville


Sevilla, Aug 22. 2014.- The process of making the new Baloncesto Sevilla has took an important step, signing for one season Berni Rodríguez, one of the members of the Spanish Golden Generation. The shooting guard, 197cm and 92kg, just turned 34 years old (07/06/1980) and he arrived to Seville to put the counterpoint of seniority in the club young project.

Berni Rodriguez joins the team commanded by Scott Roth in full maturity, and backed by a proven track record full of titles and medals. Formed in the lower categories of Unicaja, his fledgling career led him to play in the EBA League affiliate team in his last junior season.

That 1999 summer ended with the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Lisbon, next to future stars like Pau Gasol, Juan Carlos Navarro and Felipe Reyes. This led to to get in the first team debut in ACB with Unicaja during the 1999-2000 campaign. That was the first of thirteen seasons he spent in the discipline of Malaga club, with whom he won a league title (05-06), a King’s Cup (04-05) and a Korac Cup (00-01).

As many runners and one Super Cup finish staking its way through the team of his hometown, where he served as captain for several seasons. Besides Lisbon, with the youth categories of the Spanish team won gold in the European U-18 championships in Varna (1998), the same metal in the Tournament of Mannheim (98), bronze at the European U-20 Championships in Ohrid (2000) and participated in the World U21 Japan (2001).

On November 21, 2001 Berni Rodriguez debuted with the Spanish national team during the European Qualifying in Sweden (90-52 vs Romania). From there, he consolidated a long presence in the national team that allowed him to win gold at the World Cup in Japan (2006) and silver in both the Eurobasket in Spain (2007) and the Beijing Olympics (2008).

The new player comes from Sevilla Basketball from UCAM Murcia, the team who has played the last two seasons. In fifteen seasons in the top flight of Spanish basketball, has accumulated no fewer than 533 games, 11,445 minutes, scored 3,770 points and 3,009 points valued.
