Puerto Rico still alive

With 30 points from guard Jose Juan Barea, Puerto Rico won its first victory in the World Cup by beating the Philippines 77-73 in the fourth round of Group B.

Thanks to Greece 76-65 victory over Croatia, Puerto Ricans have avoided being eliminated and only a single option to advance to the second round. Rely exclusively on them (and beat the Balkan team Thursday) for fourth place in the group and face Spain in the second round.

Finally, all Puerto Ricans smiled at the end of the buzzer sound after a nightmare start to fail in the contest in the first three games. Philippines died standing, but with the satisfaction of having fought on equal terms with the best.

The last minutes of Puerto Rico were to die for, and Barea was the star of the comeback. After Andray Blatche triple that gave the Filipinos 70-67 advantage at 3:36 of the final, took the baseman layer hero and not let go. He scored the next eight points unopposed for a 75-70 lead for the final 13 seconds. Jimny Alapag forced three free throws with just four seconds after a sliding challenge from David Huertas, and gets the three. 75-73 and the stands like crazy. And Ricky Sanchez after timeout, says the game from the line staff. Huertas and Sanchez responded with 13 points each. Philippines, Blatche led with 25 points and 14 rebounds.
