Atenas Cordoba reached 1500 games in Argentina

On Monday, October 27, in the match against Regatas Corrientes, Asociacion Deportiva Atenas became the first team to reach 1,500 games played in the National Basketball League of Argentina.

The team from Córdoba is the only one who played all editions of Argentina's top competition since its inception in 1985. It has a remarkable record that places him not only as one of the most dominant teams in the country, but also enjoys international recognition.

Great players have passed through the institution and marked an era. Titles, game domination, the presence at first places in all-time statistics, and stories full of excitement, joy but also sadness. Names like Marcelo Milanesio, Héctor Campana, Germán Filloy, Leandro Palladino, Luis Emilio Villar, the late players Carlos Cerutti, the late Gabriel Riofrio, Fabricio Oberto, Mario Milanesio, Walter Herrmann, Bruno Lábaque and many other Argentine players, devoted a bit of his life to defend the colors of the "Greek" shirt. Also foreign players have made their mark as Donald Jones, Steven Edwards, Jervis Cole and more recently Andre Laws.

Among the coaches, all first class like Walter Garrone, Oscar Sanchez and a home-made Olympic champion like Ruben Magnano, who contributed their knowledge to build, from the beginning, a glorious institution that always knew to stay in the limelight . While many of its rivals, for various reasons, being relegated or even folded, Atenas was held despite the economic changes Argentina has struggled, and continued winning championships and reaching the Finals thanks to the tireless work of many managers and club workers.

Achievements in these 1500 games:

Nine league titles (1987, 1988, 1990, 1991/92 1997/98 1998/99 2001/02 2002/03 and 2008/09). 16 appearances in Finals, 23 times at least in semifinals and 27 times reaching the quarterfinals. Their worst position was 12th, last season, so Atenas always qualified for playoffs. Other national midseason titles: Top 4 (2003), Copa Argentina (2008) and Super 8 (2010)
.
Internationally, one Panamerican Championship in 1996, two South American Championships in 1993 and 1994, and three South American Leagues in 1997, 1998 and 2004, as well as the memorable third in the McDonald's Open 1997, held in Paris, sharing podium with Chicago Bulls (NBA champion) and Olympiakos (European champion).
