Larry Ayuso reaches 8,000 points in Puerto Rico

Another legend is paving his way to stardom. Slowly, but secure. Late, but amazingly effective. Considered one of the best sharp-shooters in the FIBA world, Elias 'Larry' Ayuso became last March 22 at the twenty-second player in the history of the National Superior Basketball (BSN) to score 8,000 career points.

Ayuso scored 20 goals in the game between the Mets de Guaynabo with Indios de Mayagüez, raising his total to 8,012 in a successful career of 18 seasons. Thus, surpassing Juan Trinidad (8,004) and Hector Olivencia (8.007) for Top 20 in the Puerto Rican top-flight. The shooting-guard, who on Friday March 27 is turning 38, is also the all-time leader in triples with 1,327.

Georgie Torres and Mario "Quijote" Morales, both former Mets players, are the top two in BSN's all-time scoring list with 15,863 and 15,293 points respectively. Meanwhile, Christian Dalmau, in his 23rd season and also Ayuso's teammate at Guaynabo, is currently the topscorer among active players with 9,814, clinching the twelfth rank all-time.
